Deborah was looking for a canoe club that would be friendly and kind to a slow learner. She is happy to report that RCC is both! She's had a go at whitewater kayaking and sea kayaking and retired terrified from both. She has now moved onto open boating, where she is still slow but not terrified. She has built a wooden canoe and bought a Kelly Kettle and is looking forward to many adventures.

Paddling since 1968 when we built two single wooden kayaks. As soon as our sons were old enough to sit in a kayak we bought two double touring kayaks. Regular paddlers of the club may recognise the paddler sat in the front of the kayak in my picture. In 1980 we joined RCC and took up river paddling including slalom competition. We left in 1987 and took up other sports including golf, and only paddled occasionally. In 2003 we re-joined RCC and have taken up Sea & Lake paddling whilst continuing to enjoy river paddling.

I have been a member of RCC since about 2004. My favourite past time is to paddle my sea kayak on lakes or lochs, estuaries and coastal waters whilst enjoying beautiful scenery and spotting wildlife. I do, however, occasionally get out in a kayak or tandem canoe on white water or a lake as well. I love the club camps and nothing beats sitting round the campfire with a glass or two whilst plotting the next adventure.

I've always been one for the outdoors and took up kayaking in 2008 after being introduced to by a friend. After only 10 minutes on the water I was thinking "I've got to get one of these!". After going to the club at Wigan, I defected to Ribble Canoe Club 2011 and never looked back. If I'm not out walking or camping, I can be caught in a touring boat. However, there are rumours that I also been seen in a canoe.

Meeting Dave Sutton in 2007 when I changed jobs, we instantly hit it off with similar interests of the outdoors. For a number of years he tried to get me to join RCC until in July 2015 I relented. Upon signing up I was asked if I had come to do the 1 star award. "What is that" I asked. From then on I was hooked. Doing my 1 and 2 star awards plus my 3 star award in canoe as well in the first 18 months, joining the coach forum then onto the committee I have now set my own goals of being a coach for the club, hoping to give back to the club in the same way the club coaches helped me develop. My main interests are touring in kayak on lakes, lochs and the shores of the UK coastline and down the rivers in a canoe. What is next...Whatever comes along that sounds fun to do.
